TGIF!!

I heard it was supposed to start raining on Saturday but the rain came early. Luckily I just finished my project thats been sitting out on the back patio and was able to bring it in last night before the rain came.

I had this coffee table. It's a lovely coffee table and a really good friend of mine gave it to me. The thing is, I saw a really cool coffee table makeover online somewhere and they used a coffee table very similar to mine. I had never thought of turning a coffee table into a bench! How clever is that?! So ever since I saw that, I became obsessed. I must turn my coffee table into a bench too! It was then that my sister offered me her old coffee table which I've actually always adored. What perfect timing! Obviously, it was meant to be.

I brought home my sisters coffee table to replace the old one and moved the old one out back so I could paint it. I think I was supposed to sand it first but it was very difficult to do by hand so after trying for a while and not making much progress, I decided it was fine how it was and that I could go ahead and paint it!

I think it turned out pretty nice. It was easy to make the top cushion because it was the exact same process I had used to make my headboard. I wish I had done some step by step videos of either of these projects but sometimes I get too excited about finishing something that I don't want to stop to film or take photos. Sorry :(

If you're interested in doing something like this, it can be as cheap or as expensive as you want. Of course, who wants it to be expensive? I think I paid around $10 for paint which will last me a long time. For the cushion I needed plywood, fabric and foam. The wood was probably $10, the foam was about $20 and the fabric was around $8. Not too bad right? The foam and fabric were 50% off at Joann and plywood is usually pretty cheap. Anyway, let me know if you have questions!

Before - waiting for paint

After - cute huh?

  1. This looks really nice and the only drawback I can see is that most coffee tables were not meant to sat on; their legs are not strong enough and/or they are not attached as well as a bench might be, so as a bench, one has to be careful. It looks inviting but use caution.

  2. Yes this is very true. However my fiance is a giant and over 250 pounds and has sat on it without shattering it. It's probably best for one person at a time though. Either way, it is a nice accent piece for a room and luckily I can also sit on it :)
