They said it couldn't be done, but I did it! "
Did what?", you ask. Let me tell you! I, like many people out there, own the Jokkmokk table and chairs set from Ikea. It's
lovely and
cheap. Two things that are important to me. The thing is, it is terribly plain. In my opinion, it is not ugly at all, but soooooo plain! My wonderful fiance and I stopped using the table for meals quite a while ago and it has been upstairs as my work bench. I have been on a bit of an artistic rampage lately and decided the table was going to be the next to get an update.
I've heard that many pieces from Ikea are either difficult or impossible to paint because of the lacquer or something that they use. I can't remember exactly. But I decided to do some research to see if anyone had ever painted the Jokkmokk set. It turns out, that pretty much everywhere I looked, I was told that it is impossible and to not even bother. Well, that is just not going to stop me. I decided I didn't care what the internet said and I got into my car and went to buy paint and some wooden appliques.
I don't feel like getting too detailed here but I'll give you an overview. I glued these lovely wood appliques to the table and painted the whole thing except for the top in this beautiful shade of white. I haven't had any problems and I LOVE how it turned out. Kind of that country cottage chic look that I am loving. I've only done one chair so far, but I'm going to have to round up the other 3 and do them too. What do you think?
(Did you notice I've already got a new project being painted on top of the table?)

Wonderful !
ReplyDeleteHey, what paint did you use ?? Krylon ? and with what primer ?
Thanks !
I didn't use any primer actually, but I've moved this table all over the place and it hasn't chipped a bit. I wish I could tell you what paint it was, but I don't have it anymore. It was just some satin finish wall paint from the hardware store. I've found some amazing primer that I've been using on my new projects that make it so that you don't have to do any sanding! Again, I don't know the brand, however if you read the labels, there is one (and it only comes in white) that says that you don't have to sand when you use it. It is amazing!
ReplyDeleteHi, Are you still happy with the results, even though you didn't sand it? The result looks great! Thanks,
